The Pistons Academy Summer Basketball Camp Tour starts next month In Birmingham and will continue with visits in eight cities over 10 weeks. This is the first full summer of the Pistons Academy Camps and over 1000 campers are expected to attend.

“Its going to be an amazing summer” says Pistons Director of Fan Development, Geo Thomas, “We are planning some amazing things for our tour this year. Things that kids will remember for a lifetime.”

“We try to give the kids something unique, something different that they cant get at any other camp,” adds Camp Director Aaron Smith, “Each day we are going to deliver something special!”

There are plenty of new activities within the camp this year. Perhaps the most notable is the NBA-like combine each Monday. Campers will participate in drills that will measure speed, strength, vertical leap, and their basketball IQ. “We just purchesed over $1000 of training equipment for our campers,” says Thomas, “We want to be able to give them the same experience the NBA Rookies have before they are drafted.”

The Camp tour kicks off on June 17 in Birmingham and runs at a different location each week. The camp is for boys and girls entering grades 3-9 and runs every day from 9am-3pm. A Pizza Lunch is offered at each camp for $5 per day and each camper receives a Pistons Academy Camp Shirt.

For more information on Pistons Academy Camps, please contact Camp Director Geo Thomas at 248-371-2048 or click the “Summer Camp” tab at the top of this website. For a sneak peak of our camp, check out this video from the Detroit Pistons website: http://www.nba.com/pistons/video/2012/09/20/FuturePistonsPistonsAcadNewmp4-2220444

As the Detroit Pistons prepare for their season opener on October 31, the Pistons Academy is preparing for their fall season’s closing ceremonies. To commemorate the first season of Pistons Academy, we are hosting two very special events.

The first is the “Academy Awards” on Friday November 2nd. This event will recognize many of the players currently in the Pistons Academy. Awards such as Most Improved, Best Sportsmanship, All-league and the Pistons Academy MVP will be passed out to those players who have worked so hard this season. After the awards, the Pistons dunk team, “The Flight Crew” will showcase their amazing passing and dunking skills. HOOPER, the Pistons mascot, will also be there to entertain. The Academy Awards will be held at Berkshire Middle School from 7:45pm-9:00pm on Friday November 2. Admission is free and everyone is welcome!

The second event will be the Pistons Academy Night at the Palace. On Sunday, November 18, members of the Pistons Academy are invited to attend a free basketball clinic at the Palace. Then, every player gets a FREE ticket to watch the Pistons take on the Boston Celtics. Parents can purchase additional tickets at a discounted price. The Clinic is from 3:30-5pm and friends are welcome to attend. Check out the form for more information or call Geo Thomas at 248-371-2048. ACADEMY NIGHT AT THE PALACE ORDER FORM
