AlphaWolf Challenge 3-on-3 Rules
Tournament Philosophy: The AlphaWolf Challenge is intended to provide teams a chance to play basketball in a fun, challenging and organized event.
Rules of the Game:
Objective: To be the first team to reach 25 points in the 18 minutes allowed per game.
Scoring: 3pts for a 3-point make; 2pts for a 2-point make; 1pt per free-throw; 3pts for a technical foul.
Coin Flip: --Teams will flip a coin to see who gets ball first (and in overtime)
Clock: --Games shall be no longer than 20 minutes.
--If teams do not reach 21pts after 20 minutes, the team leading shall be declared the winner.
--If the score is tied when the clock expires, the next point scored will determine the winner. Whoever has the possession arrow will receive the ball.
--Clock stops on baskets and fouls in the last 30 seconds, if the point difference is 6pts or less.
--Each team has two time-outs for the game. Time-outs are 30 seconds long. The clock does not stop on time-outs unless called in the last 30 seconds.
Fouls: --Players cannot foul out.
--Bonus is at 5 team fouls: Bonus = one free-throw and possession of the ball.
--Double Bonus is at 8 team fouls. Double Bonus = two free-throws and possession.
--Technical fouls are automatic three points. Players are ejected from Tournament if they pick up two techs in the tournament.
Take-Back: --On changes of possession, the ball must be brought out and dribbled once behind the 3-point line. This includes air-balls.
--If a team does not completely take the ball back before a shot, they will lose possession.
--The take-back rule does not apply in overtime.
Check: --The ball will always be checked after a whistle, basket or free-throw attempt.
--After a basket, the team that was on defense gains possession (“loser’s outs”).
--The ball will always be checked from the top of the key and must be passed in to start play.
--Teams have 5 seconds to inbound the ball once the check has been given. Failure to do so will result in loss of possession.
--Those defending the check must give offensive player three-feet of space.
--Those defending away from the ball may guard offensive players anywhere on the court.
Subs: --Players can enter the game after a whistle or basket.
--Players should call “subs” when making a substitution.
--Players cannot sub in once the ball has been checked
Overtime: --Overtime will be sudden death (first team to score).
--In championship games, the first team to 21 will be the winner, regardless of time.
--After 20 minutes, you do not have to take the ball back ("straight-up")
Format:: --Tournament is round robin games to determine seeding. All teams make playoffs.
--Awards are given to 1st and 2nd place teams as well as "Omega-Bowl" winners

Officials: --Any rule not listed in this outline is at the discretion of the court official.
--The court official reserves the right to use a verbal count in the last few seconds of the game
--Those arguing calls will be subject to technical fouls and ejection from tournament.
Coaches: --Teams are not required to have coaches.
--Coaches must remain on the sideline—Not the baseline!
--Coaches who constantly yell and scream will be asked to leave the gym area.
Uniforms: --Teams are welcome to wear uniformed shirts. However…
--Teams should bring a set of dark colored shirts and light colored shirts to assist the refs in officiating the game.
--Teams losing the coin flip will get to choose light or dark (if needed)
--Pinnies will be provided for players/teams who fail to bring light/dark.
Game Time: --Game time is forfeit time.
--Games tend to run ahead of schedule, so please be in the gym and ready to play within five minutes of the start time.
Sportsmanship: --Parents and players are expected to practice sportsmanship at all times.
--Parents and players who are unsportsmanlike will be dismissed from the tournament without refund.
